| A little project I have been working on putting together - an electric water pump setup for my Z. I have made some progress, but I am not happy with the pour. My greensand had too much water in it and it caused the aluminum to have a wrinkled finish. After looking closer at how I cast the piece, I should have flipped it over and poured it that way rather than on the top. When the aluminum cooled, the sprue and riser (the vertical columns that the aluminum is pured through) were unable to deliver more aluminum to the electric motor flange area and the metal shrunk and left a void. I'm gonna have to get some petrobond rather than this greensand if I want a nice finish - that stuff is bonded with petroleum (hence the name) rather than water and it produces an extremely nice casting finish. Owell, I just had to fire this puppy up and give it a shot. Here's the images:

Owell, I'm not giving up that easy. This is the first piece of metal I have ever tried to cast so I wasn't expecting much, but I was happy to at least see the general shape, LOL. I'll order some pertobond tomorrow and recast the piece next week sometime.
